JOB TITLE: Livelihoods Project Coordinator
LOCATION: Galkayo, Somalia
REPORTING: Deputy Country Director
SUMMARY:
The Livelihoods Project Coordinator will be responsible for the development, start-up, ongoing management, continuing development, and daily supervision of all activities under RI’s livelihoods program for the IDPS/refugees in Galkayco.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Designs work plan and manages implementation of protection and livelihoods interventions in Galkayo
  • Ensures project targets are met according to work plan deadlines, and that the project is adequately resourced to carry out effective programming. Oversees course correction with other senior staff as needed.
  • Conducts community assessments to identify critical requirements for program interventions with focus on the IDPs and refugees.
  • Leads the development of strategy for Somalia livelihoods activities, with emphasis on response to perceived needs indicated by communities and beneficiaries.
  • Strengthening RI Somalia capacity profile in Livelihood programming.
  • Review existing programming and make recommendations for areas of expansion.
  • Plans and implements emergency interventions in beneficiary communities as needed.
  • Works with the Country Team, operations, finance, and security staff to ensure that all program activities adhere to RI and international standards.
  • Conducts and designs livelihoods activities with the utmost sensitivity for the safety and well-being of beneficiaries and national staff and with regard to the political context.
  • Provides capacity-building for national staff: technical support, organizing training, and preparing training Manuel and schedule for livelihoods staff.
  • Take lead in the development of livelihoods indicators and relevant monitoring and evaluation instruments and provide real time technical advice to project staff through direct field visits.
  • Undertake frequent field visits to project sites to ensure that the activities are carried out in accordance to work plan and technical requirements.
  • Ensures that RI provides quality services that meet Sphere and other international standards.
  • Focal point for technical proposal writing for livelihoods programmes.
  • Submits monthly and quarterly reports by collection of information and data from the field, data analysis, and report documentation.
  • Seeks funding support from local donors in coordination with the Country Office.
  • Manages sector budget and personnel in line within RI field procedures and Code of Conduct.
  • Liaison with various stakeholders and leading livelihoods organizations in all project locations, and take lead role in providing information regarding livelihoods trends to RI Deputy Country Director and Country Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Significant (at least 5 years) experience working with an INGO in increasing positions of reporting and responsibility.
  • Experience (2 years) developing and implementing Agriculture and Livelihoods sector activities.
  • A bachelor’s degree in development, agriculture, or related fields a must. Post-graduate degree is desirable.
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills.
  • Logistical planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis strongly required.
  • Experience living and working in dynamic, insecure environments and with local communities.
  • Ability to live and function at a high capacity within a collaborative organizational structure.
  • Ability to live and work from within a remote post.
  • Understanding of the political and cultural context in Somalia and the wider Horn of Africa and a strong interest in working in the region.
  • Demonstrated written and oral English communication skills (must be able to provide an independently created and relevant writing sample).
  • Demonstrated budget and expense management skills.
