OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
Our client is a principal service provider in the field of mine action with the mine-affected countries and other mine action partners. The Cluster is responsible to administer, provide support and oversight of the day-to-day management of the Project Field offices, both according to the client requirements and in line with our clients rules and regulations. It is headed by the Cluster Chief who has the overall authority and accountability for the performance of the Mine Action Cluster on behalf of its clients.
Somalia Mine Action supports mine and explosive remnants of war (ERW) clearance activities, awareness programming, contamination survey and coordination for mine action activities throughout Somalia. Somalia Mine Action works closely with other UN Agencies, local communities and humanitarian and development actors to ensure a sustainable and effective response to explosive contamination in Somalia, with priority on improving the lives of people living in affected communities, and ensuring national capacity development for a long term solution to the problem. In Somaliland and Puntland, capacity development has been carried out for the Somaliland Mine Action Centre SMAC, the Police EOD, the Puntland Mine Action Centre and the Puntland EOD. The Programme has an office in Nairobi to provide managerial and support functions for the Regional Offices in Somalia.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS
Reporting to the IMSMA Officer and working with our clients program & projects and various UN and International counter parts, specifically the national mine and ERW institutions, the IMSMA Associate will be responsible to the IMSMA Office for all aspects of Mine Action Information quality assurance, data entry and GIS. She/he will provide support to the IMSMA Officer in all aspects of Mine Action data collection and dissemination. She/he will produce high quality maps on demand using satellite imagery, topographical data and mine action information in support of their operations:
IM Responsibilities:
· Responsible for verification and recording of all field data from implementers into the IMSMA database.
· Perform quality assurance on reported data before data entry.
· Carry out quality checks during and after data entry.
· Produce statistics and reports from the Mine Action data.
· Assist in creation and maintenance of comprehensive soft and hard archive system.
· Update both soft and hard archives on weekly basis.
· Create photo catalogue from received photos from mine action activities.
· Regularly review and update IMSMA forms as per the need of field activities.
· Regular distribution of IMSMA forms to operations and implementers.
GIS Responsibilities:
· Assist in preparation and printing of informative maps with mine action and other available data.
· Work and produce standard mapping templates.
· Update Geodatabases and use updated themes on produced maps.
· Update and organize GIS projects and take regular backups of GIS data.
· Geo referencing of interest locations and efficient use on mapping projects.
· Maintain and contribute to the operations mapping archive.
· Follow-up on all GIS procurement requests and keep updated log on delivery status.
· Keep updated log on delivered map products to all UNMAS and other stakeholders.
Other Responsibilities:
· Assist IMSMA officer to provide regular trainings to operations and implementers in the use of IMSMA & GIS.
· Contribute to the development of procedures, guidelines and manuals.
· Assist with IT and other general computer related issues.
· Perform any other duties assigned by IMSMA Officer.
· Under the direct supervision of Program Manager, the Associate Operations Officer will be responsible for the following within his or her area of responsibility (AOR):
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
Education
· Advance University Degree (Master’s) or Bachelor Degree in Institute in information management and GIS or related field is required.
Work Experience
· Work experience of two years in the field of database and GIS or related fields.
· Knowledge of IMSMA NG5 is required
· Good computer skills in windows operating system in the networked environment
· Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Language
· Fluency in written and oral English and the language of the duty station required.
· Knowledge of second UN working language an asset.
