Water Technician /Trainer

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                                               % OF TIME      

·            Carry out technical assessment of all the water points fitted with pumping equipment and record their conditions including the state of the reticulation and storage systems and the state of the bore-hole protection.
·            To draw a comprehensive list of spare parts or new equipment required for repair of the non-functional bore-holes/shallow Well after establishing the quality of the water.

·            Based on the technical assessment, recommend appropriate rehabilitations, repairs/replacements to restore functionality of the BHs/Wells.

·            Supported by the beneficiaries, repair or install  the  pumps in the selected water points

·            Train at least 2 persons nominated by the beneficiary community of every water point that has been rehabilitated or newly installed.

·            Where none exist or active, initiate or revive a water user committee in every water point that has been rehabilitated.

·            With the support of the WASH Officer/Manager, initiate linkages between the Water user committees and pump parts shops in Garissa or Nairobi.

·             In close liaison with logistics and Administration, ensure coordinated delivery of parts and whole pumps and all materials necessary for the execution of the tasks.

·            To prepare weekly and monthly technical plans and progress reports of the project and assist the WASH Officer/Manager for reporting needs and to carry an assessment and reports as and when requested by the WASH Coordinator  or Project Coordinator.

·            Problem-solve issues that arise on program implementation.

·            Ensure the proper follow-up of activities and monitor the ongoing works

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED (List the important technical and professional skills and knowledge required to do the job well.  Include years of experience required.)

Academic qualifications
·          Secondary level education

Technical

·          An artisans certificate from a recognized institution ( Nationally examined)

·          At least 2 years hands-on experience in similar position with a credible organization or government institution.

·            Should have thorough knowledge on the working, installation and repair of  submersible pumps, India Mark II hand pumps and diesel power generators ( PERKINS and Lister Engines)

·            Proven skills in training of users of the equipment.

·            Good interpersonal, organizational, communication and time management skills

·            Should be able to generate comprehensive technical and non- technical reports.

·            Has good mastery of English as official working language.

·            Knowledge of Somali as the beneficiary language is desirable.
