Overview of position:
- WFP is looking to hire Facility/Compound Manager for its operations in Somalia.
Role objectives:
- Facility Manager, who should be based on site, must have at least a Bachelor’s degree or a Higher National Diploma with a minimum three (3) years of relevant experience in a management/supervisor role on a similar project with the UN, international organisations or large corporations.
- He or she must demonstrate good organisational an leadership skills with an ability to guide and direct effectively, delegate tasks and to develop a team with strong work ethic.
- Good knowledge of guiding occupational health, hygiene and safety practices at workplace are required.
- Experience in conflict/post conflict zones, the East Africa and Horn of Africa Regions, especially in Somalia is desirable.
- The person must be fluent in spoken and written English with ability to give clear instructions remain calm even under pressure, and to take decisive action particularly during emergencies.
Expected output:
- Assists OM in all matters related to facilities management.
- Ensures regular maintenance of buildings and building systems (electrical, plumbing,
- air/conditioning, etc.), including the identification of problems and the discussion with appropriate and specialized contractors.
- Supervises the catering services & develops different menus in agreement with the residents of compound.
- Maintains high quality hygiene standards in the kitchen, food stores and common guesthouse areas.
- Assists OM on regular supply chain (procurement and logistics) for required food supplies, including storage.
- Inspects sites and recommends solutions to routine as well as unusual technical problems.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
- Supervises and ensures that works done by contractors (cleaning, catering, laundry services) are performed promptly and according to existing contracts and results expected.
- Develops procedures for preventive and routine maintenance of all facilities equipment and fittings.
- Ensures that fire and industrial safety standards are followed at all times.
- Prepares periodic reports on the economic and financial aspects of facilities management.
- Supervises the contracted staff involved in facilities management. Provides training and technical guidance in their work.
- Assists in allocation and management of the facility space to achieve maximum efficiency. Coordinates intra-office moves in agreement with the OM.
- Supervises maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment.
- Assists the OM in facility refurbishment and renovations, as required.
- Implements best practice processes for efficient Facility Management.
- Performs any other relevant task assigned by the OM.
Project reporting:
- This role reports to the WFP Operations Manager

Team management:
- This role requires the Compound Manager to supervise a team of 15 persons who are providing cleaning, catering & maintenance services throughout the compound.
