Position: Renewable Energy Engineer (Short term consultant)
Reports to: Country Director
Location: Based in Mogadishu, with frequent travel to field sites (Balet Hawa and Baletwayne)
Duration: 3 months (with possibility of extension)
Start Date: September 2016

SUMMARY: RI is planning to begin implementation of renewable energy activities in September 2016, thus is looking for a Renewable Energy Engineer to support this work as a consultant. This position focuses on activities related to solar energy for water reuse for agricultural purposes and WASH which will enhance the financial resilience of households by reducing utility costs. The Renewable Energy Engineer is expected to provide technical knowledge, skills and advice in ensuring quality in renewable energy activities. He/she is expected to have extensive experience in solar energy, waste water reuse and rainwater harvesting.
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Management and Evaluation:
  • Liaise with local contractors/partners and communities on project implementation and provide supervision;
  • Prepare daily progress reports outlining project activities
  • Work closely with procurement department for ordering key supplies.
  • Prepare detailed technical designs and estimates related to construction
Representation: Represent Relief International (RI) in meetings with community and government representative.
Advocacy and Communication: Coordinate with RI’s Communications Team in publishing a manual, guidelines and success stories on the adaptation of renewable energy solutions within targeted communities and the impact of RI’s intervention in those communities.
Financial Management: Monitor construction/implementation expenses according to required quantities, project budget and RI financial procedures. Prepare contractors’/suppliers’ invoices within the required timeframe and budget.
Senior Management Leadership: Assist the project team in all relevant activities and provide program updates to the Country Director upon request.
Human Resource Management: Identify the capacity of contractors and suppliers in supporting renewable energy solutions. Identify the capacity of community members to participate in project implementation.
Other Duties: Participate in project planning including designing BOQs, TORs and project schedules for renewable energy interventions. Evaluate the interventions and provide feedback and recommendations to RI.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
  • At least two years of experience in renewable energy/solar, water and environmental engineering;
  • One-year experience working with NGOs is required;
  • University degree in mechanical, water and environment, renewable energy engineering or related fields;
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Water, environment and renewable energy skills;
  • Renewable energy/Solar energy modelling tools and design;
  • Water Resource Management;
  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written);
  • Ability to interact with local partners and beneficiaries;
  • Ability to conduct trainings for beneficiaries.
