Al-Khair Foundation is a UK registered charity working to deliver humanitarian and development projects worldwide. Founded in 2003, Al-Khair provides emergency aid, medical care, education and livelihood support to vulnerable communities in the United Kingdom, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and is committed to supporting these groups to become sustainable active citizens in their society. Al-Khair Foundation is a key development partner of choice for Governments, NGOs, donors and civil society in their respective countries.
Al-Khair Foundations has been working in Somaliland since 2012. Our particular areas of focus in this jurisdiction have centred on working on WASH, livelihood and seasonal programmes. The successful candidate will be required to work closely with our International Programmes Department in the UK to actively manage development programmes in Somaliland, building relationships and liaising with partners and beneficiaries, providing leadership and strategic direction to local programmes, programme design, monitoring, evaluation and resource mobilisation.
As the substantive role of Somaliland Country Manager sits in the International Programmes remit, the Country Manager will play an integral role in assisting the Director of International Programmes in implementing Al-Khair Foundation’s development programme in line with Al-Khair Foundation’s strategic priorities and overall business plan for that jurisdiction.
The key responsibilities of this role will be to oversee Al-Khair Foundations activities and development programmes in Somaliland by liaising with the appropriate governmental bodies and other stake holders, provide regular detailed updates to our Head Office in London; lead the management of resources, manage finances and assets of Al-Khair Foundation in Somaliland, providing regular financial planning, monitoring and reporting; to network and liaise with other INGOs and local NGOs to establish partnerships, and to integrate Al-Khair Foundation into the wider Somaliland community; to develop long-term relationships with funding institutions such as DFID and USAID to obtain future funds, and to capitalise on funding opportunities that are in line with AKF’s Somaliland strategy; to oversee the management of programmes to ensure their efficiency, quality and timely completion; to establish a skilled team in Somaliland to effectively implement programmes across Somaliland; to actively monitor and oversee Al-Khair Foundation’s local entity/partner, AKF Somaliland, to ensure they are following the required reporting procedures, developing and ensuring an atmosphere of professionalism and to ensure they meet all agreed deadlines for all required documentation, using the newly created templates; to liaise with partners and beneficiaries to ensure all project outputs are met; to ensure all project systems and procedures are followed and contract documentation is completed on time and in line with funder requirements; to ensure funding proposals and reports are to the highest standard and to the requirement of the Head Office in London, using the newly developed templates to complete each stage of the project cycle; to ensure all correspondence, monthly progress reports and relevant administration is produced in a timely and accurate manner in line with donor requirements; to identify and prepare case studies and reports for use in promotional material of AKF’s activities; to work with the Communication department, providing them with material as and when requested; and to provide regular feedback to the Head Office, updating the appropriate staff as and when required.
For this role you will need a degree level qualification ideally in international development or geography. You will have substantial experience in international development, preferably within an INGO/NGO setting; significant experience in managing a programmes team, plus demonstrable skills in strategic development, planning, monitoring and evaluation. You will have proven experience in building strong relationships at with development partners, donors and beneficiaries. You must also be able to travel extensively at short notice.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
