With funding from the United Nations Children Agency (UNICEF), SRDA is responding to the current drought in Somalia by implementing a 2 year’s Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) in Luuq district of Gedo region. The project is providing basic health and nutrition support to children under 5 and pregnant and lactating women from Luuq district through fixed and mobile OTP units who will be administrating severe and moderate malnutrition
Position Summary
Under the leadership of the Senior Nutritionist and the close supervision of the EPI Supervisor, the Extended Programme on Immunization (EPI), the EPI Vaccinator will be responsible for conducting all vaccination session in both fixed and mobile OTP sites. She/he will Report and records, measles and Polio cases and conduct immunization, mopping up campaigns.

Main Responsibilities
o Conducts static vaccination sessions in BHUs as scheduled including holding outreach activities in the field
o Administers vaccines correctly in accordance with guidelines, and maintains strict aseptic techniques
o Reports and record measles cases and conduct ring immunization, mopping up and or any other supplemental immunization activities/campaigns
o Liaise closely with Healthy promoters and other staff in order to avoid missed opportunities (including screening of cards) for immunization of children and women, children to be followed up on due list and defaulter tracing.
o Also coordinates for proper birth recording/reporting and growth monitoring activities in the facilities with the teams.
o Maintains accurate record/chart of monitoring coverage of the target population
o Maintains accurate EPI records including daily and permanent registers, and additional records on due and defaulters (prepare and update lists on monthly basis)
o Provides counselling to the care givers on the preventive and primitive health aspects of the vaccines, vaccination schedules, when to return for the other shot of vaccine etc.
o Receives vaccines from the field office and ensures that the cold chain is correctly maintained to the point of actual immunization in accordance to standardized guidelines
o Prepares monthly statistical report, vaccine consumption/wastage rates and submits in timely manner.
o Ensures that used syringes, needles and all vaccinations vials/ampoules are stored and disposed of per protocols.
o Participates in meeting with community representatives, volunteers and to discuss EPI activities such as defaulters, EPI campaigns etc.
o Coordination/representation:
o Co-ordinate with health promoters on regular basis for defaulter tracing and participate in health education session
o Previous working experience in the chronic/forgotten crisis environment desirable;
Having Knowledge and Experience in the local context or being a former SRDA employee is an added advantage
Qualifications, Experience and Requirements:
o Diploma or an equivalent certificate in Nursing from a recognized institution
o Proven working experience of health nutrition program
  • Somali language in an added advantage
  • Previous experience in working in vaccination program
  • Demonstrated knowledge of UNICEF programming and experience managing nutrition and health programs compliant with donor such as USAID, DFID, ECHO, EC regulations will be an asset;
  • Proven program leadership, management, project planning, organizational, interpersonal, communication, and security management skills
